How does product-testing work?
Manufacturers conduct product testing to help ensure that their products meet industry, national and international safety standards.

Most products sold on the market have their own product standard. For example, cots sold in the Australian market place are tested in accordance with AS/NZS 2172:2003.

The Australian Standard AS/NZS 2172:2003 is mandatory for all cots sold in Australia.

The standard helps to ensure that cots:
· Have no rough edges;
· Are stable;
· Have no foot holes or toe holes for climbing;
· Are assembled as per the manufacturer’s instructions.

Around the world there are a number of organisations that can conduct product testing.

One of the easiest ways to know if a product has been tested in accordance with the appropriate standard is to look for the "five ticks" Certified Product StandardsMark
